Pilates Reformer Maintenance

Regular maintenance of your Pilates equipment is the best way to keep your reformer and other equipment functioning perfectly and in the best shape to enjoy it for many years.

Please follow directions very carefully! You are responsible for the safety and security of this equipment when used by you and your clients.

Maintenance Check List & Schedule

Precautions Necessary For All Pilates Equipment:
Do not modify your apparatus (or device) in any way; nor should you utilize another manufacturers’ components as attachments to your products.

Do not use the apparatus if it shows sign of severe wear, or if broken or damaged. Keep body, hair, and clothing away from all moving parts. Be aware that personal accessories (such as jewelry) can easily damage vinyl covering of equipment and can easily become entangled with moving parts of equipment. We highly recommend to remove any item of jewelry that has sharp edges, protrudes or hangs away from the body.

Never allow children to be unsupervised around or on equipment.

If you are using the equipment daily but intermittently, we strongly suggest a monthly maintenance program. If the equipment is used daily and continuously, we would recommend a weekly maintenance schedule, however, all moving parts must be checked daily.

A weekly inspection of your springs is critical due to the potentiality of injury resulting from spring failure. Springs should be immediately replaced if any distortion to the appearance of springs is observed or any unusual sounds emanate from the springs. The average life of Reformer springs is around 18 months if the Reformer is continuously used, whereupon they should be replaced.

Wipe all equipment down daily with a heavily diluted mild soap solution. (Dove, Joy, etc.) Dry thoroughly. Vinyl, US Millennium, can be disinfected with sodium hydrochloride (common household bleach) diluted with water, 1:10 – one part bleach to 10 parts water.  We do not recommend the use of Tea Tree Oil as it is likely to damage the vinyl by drying it out. Do not use cleaning products containing alcohol. We recommend Precision Pilates Equipment Sterilizer, which is specifically formulated for metal and vinyl used for Pilates equipment.

Reformer: (Monthly or Weekly Schedule)
Check all straps, hooks and attachments for security.  Check strap joints for wear and tear. Straps need to be re-sized periodically. Check tracks for dirt or grit build-up, which if found, should be removed with a scraper in conjunction with a mild soap solution. If severe, use NAPTHA Thinner and wipe with soft cloth. Dry thoroughly.

Check wheels for wear.  Wheels should be lubricated monthly or quarterly, depending on usage, using white Lithium grease (tube is best). Surplus grease should be removed to ensure that it does not fall on the tracks. Do not lubricate (or silicone spray) the tracks.

Check ALL bolts, and all moving parts for security and retighten if necessary. Check springs for wear or distortion. Check footbar covering and make sure footbar is properly seated and secured in its socket. Check headrest attachment to insure that it is properly tightened and secure.

Cadillac: (Monthly)
Check all bolts on poles for tightness
Check all spring hooks and attachments Note: Leg springs tend to torque after certain exercises.  Bring spring back to resting position after each client by giving spring a tug to un-twist.
Check all safety straps, leg straps, chains, etc.

Ladder Barrel:
Check all bolts and screws for tightness

Pedi-pole:

Check all bolts, clips and hooks for security
Check springs and attachments.

Stability Chairs:
Check springs and attachments/
Check hinges for foot plate and foot plate attachments. Tighten, if necessary, ensuring that the required clearance is maintained on each side of the footplate (pedal).
Check all bolts, clips and hooks for security.

Tower (Guillotine) and Wall Unit Towers:
Check attachment to wall (or ceiling) and to floor (weekly).
Check all bolts, clips and hooks for security. Check springs and attachments.

The Best Pilates equipment

I tested them all, comparing prices and quality. Elita is the best choice by far. So well made I regularly stare at the quality of woodwork and attachments. I'm so happy with the first one I bought an identical one for another home! Reformer plus tower package comes with everything you'll need, and is easy to assemble watching the supplied video. Don't question it, this is a great investment.
